While pursuing his college education in Mumbai in 1971, Lokanath Swami was struck by the presence of Srila Prabhupada and the Hare Krishna devotees at a pandal program in Mumbai. In 1972 Maharaja received harinama initiation and in 1975 was awarded sannyasa by Prabhupada. As Centennial Minister during the 1990’s the duty bestowed upon him was to organize the global celebration of Prabhupada’s 100th birth anniversary. Maharaja is the GBC Padayatra Minister and in this role he continues to spread the holy names in more towns and villages, throughout India and the world. He is a member of the Indian Bureau and is tasked with managing his zone in India. Maharaja is an initiating spiritual master and author of more than a dozen books. He travels globally and is known for his enlivening kathas and ecstatic kirtanas. He is a regular presenter at the ILS.
